Litter-picking equipment

Writer's picture: markdirectmarkdirect

Whether litter-picking alone or in a group, you’ll need the right equipment to carry out a safe and enjoyable clean-up.

What Equipment Do You Need?

The basics we recommend are:

  • · Hand-held litter-picker

  • · Refuse sacks

  • · Bags for recyclables (depending on what your council recycles)

  • · Gloves

  • · High visibility vest

If you’re an event organiser you might also include:

  • · Mobile phone for emergencies

  • · First aid kit

  • · Hand sanitiser

  • · Hoop or device to hold open refuse sacks

  • · Cart to carry equipment

  • · Long-handled litter-picker

  • · Camera to record your event

  • · Refreshments

Obtaining your Equipment

Your local authority can often supply equipment either by donating it to your group or lending it. Many councils supply special refuse sacks for litter collections and are generally very supportive of volunteer litter-pickers.

If you prefer to buy your own equipment there are plenty of suppliers, especially online."
